On the Ob

Walking the Ob Riverbank at night was certainly beautiful with the bridges’ shadows stretching across the silent black ice, but extraordinarily cold.  Even with fur-lined boots, wool clothing and a down coat, the wind and extreme negative temperatures in Novosibirsk only allow one to be out at night for short increments of time.  I lasted thirty-five or so minutes, and that included hot coco (which reached ice cold temperatures in around 5 minutes) and continuous movement. After experiencing this, I understand a little better why my boyfriend, a native of the city, always laughs when I tell him that he should put on his gloves when we go outside back at home in Germany and the temperatures are only around freezing.
